Modeling of ionospheric scintillation

چکیده

A signal, such as from a GNSS satellite or microwave sounding system, propagating in the randomly inhomogeneous ionosphere, experiences chaotic modulations of its amplitude and phase. This effect is known scintillation. article reviews basic theoretical concepts simulation strategies for modeling scintillation phenomenon. We focused our attention primarily on methods connected with random phase screen model. For weak scattering regime ionospheric irregularities, single-phase model enables us to obtain analytic expression intensity indices, well statistical quantities characterizing strength scintillation-related fades distortions. In case multiple scattering, screens becomes handy tool obtaining these indices. both regimes, properties medium play an important role are discussed emphasis related geometric aspects. As illustration, approaches used global climatological GISM briefly discussed.

Real-Time Ionospheric Scintillation Monitoring

As the millennium approaches we are faced with a period of increasing solar flux and intense ionospheric scintillation. Not only single-frequency, but also dualfrequency GPS measurements will be badly affected by deep scintillation, due to its temporal and spatial decorrelation characteristics. Using the scintillation observables derived from dual-frequency phase and signal-to-noise ratio measu...

A Review of Ionospheric Scintillation Models

This is a general review of the existing climatological models of ionospheric radio scintillation for high and equatorial latitudes. Trans-ionospheric communication of radio waves from transmitter to user is affected by the ionosphere which is highly variable and dynamic in both time and space. Scintillation is the term given to irregular amplitude and phase fluctuations of the received signals...

Multiple phase screen modeling of ionospheric scintillation along radio occultation raypaths

[1] We present the Radio Occultation Scintillation Simulator (ROSS), which uses the multiple phase screen method (MPS) to simulate the forward scatter of radio waves by irregularities in the equatorial ionosphere during radio occultation experiments. ROSS simulates propagation through equatorial plasma bubbles which are modeled as homogeneous electron density fluctuations modulated by a Chapman...

Empirical Characterization and Modeling of GPS Positioning Errors Due to Ionospheric Scintillation

Ionospheric scintillation degrades GPS positioning accuracy in a number of ways. Along each scintillating satellite-receiver link, errors are introduced in the measurements of pseudorange and carrier phase. When the scintillation on a given link is sufficiently intense, the link becomes intermittently unavailable for use in the position solution. The loss of each link leads to an increased dilu...
